Slow Food Barbados

Slow Food is a worldwide organization created in 1989 in Italy to counter the rise of fast food and the fast life, the disappearance of local food traditions and people’s dwindling interest in the food they eat.

They advocate for a clean, fair and good supply of food, and try to connect good gastronomy with a good quality production.

Slow Food Barbados was implemented in September 2012 in partnership with the OGCA, and represented by Ian McNeel, John Hunte, Julie Hooper, Lani Edgehill and Fraser Young.

Their goal is to lessen the amount of imported foods and support local farmers, chefs and small scale producers, by facilitating linkages between local producers and consumers, to further develop the sustainable food movement in Barbados.

They created Farm-to-Table Barbados dinner series to reach out to producers, consumers, restaurants, chefs, government and private entities in the food industry.

Their tasty - gourmet- local meals which took place at different famous restaurants have featured important personalities, such as the Minister of Tourism Richard Sealy, celebrity chefs Paul Yellin and Aaron McCargo Jr., owner of Nature’s Produce Tim Walsh and members of the Organic Growers Association.
